Description:As adults, we like to think we have outgrown the days of being "dared." Yet, we still have unrealistic expectations put on us in our jobs, communities, and families. In this series, we look three teachings of Jesus, and ask ourselves, will we accept the dare to move, to refuse, and to forgive?

Description:God can do whatever God wants to do, but for some reason, God has chosen to work through us. As we seek to impact poverty in our community and around the world, two things we must know: 1) real, lasting change only comes through God, 2) those living in poverty to must want the change. Let's get to work.
Stephen Brinkman
4/17/16
Description:Many people living poverty have been conditioned to misunderstand who they are and forget what they have, and I'm not talking about material possessions. To impact poverty, we must listen and learn to must focus on the gifts one has before we even try to determine what one needs.

Description:Paternalistic- "habitiually doing things for people that they can do for themselves." The Church is called to be a part of the Mission of God. But too often times, we miss it. Our heart for others and call to serve can do more harm than good. So, how is it that we are to join the work God is doing and impact poverty in our community and around the world?

Description:Dream: What one beleives to be best. Hope: The feeling or understanding that the dream can come true. As a child, most of us had dreams: from the giants and unicorns that soon became a big house, nice car, and hot husband or wife, which matured into a dream for a successful career, a loving family, and peaceful life. But with experience, failures, and just life in general, many of us began to feel our dreams would never come true. And for many, hope was lost. But the Easter story is different. Dreams did become reality and impossibilities became possible. Still today, through Jesus Christ, dreams are becoming hope and hope is becoming reality.

Description:So many things in our culture bait us to the edge of moral disaster. And because its legal, permissible, and acceptable, we take the bait. It is often easy to notice the verge of moral disaster in someone else's life, but much tougher in our own. Therefore, we need margin for error.

Description:When making a decision, we have all asked ourselves, "Is there anything wrong with it?" Give it a little time after making that decision, and we have all found ourselves asking, "What was I thinking?" What if I said there is a better question to ask.

Description:With the attention of a large crowd, Jesus doesn't talk about the great life to come if they join his revolution. Instead, he says, "Overcome the status quo. Go the extra mile. Set higher standards for yourself." But he doesn't stop there. There is more than this.
Stephen Brinkman
1/3/16
Description:Throughout history, people have come to the conclusion that things are not right or as good as they could or should be. So, they have started a Revolution. What about you? As the new year begins, do you see the need for life to be different? If so, don't join the crowd with the failure of another New Year's Resolution. Join the Revolution that got started 2,000 years ago. "Resolutions focus on outward behaviors. Revolutions rise up from the inside causing real-life change."

Description:There may be no better way to address family matters than that driven by love. What if I said, as you gather around the table with your family for Chistmas dinner, the most loving thing for you to do is make sure you have an empty seat at the table?

Description:Most all of us have had the moments when we came to a realization, only to discover the brokenness in the world all around us and the brokenness in our own lives. Joy would be the last word we would think to describe our feelings. Today, we find that we will not expereince joy because God will do what we want, but because God's plans are better. Extraordinary possibilities become reality through extraordinary faith.

Description:At Christmas, we get to experience the "Power to Pick"--from Christmas trees to Christmas gifts (for others and ourselves) to Christmas dinners. For many, the "power to pick" is great until we realize the impact our decisions have on ourselves, our family, and others. These are the moments we recognize that peace is one thing we all need. The question is: where do you find peace?
Stephen Brinkman
11/29/15
Description:The gospel of Matthew begins by recounting the family ancestry of Jesus, because family mattered. For many of us, home made Christmas growing up. But what about now? As the world quickly changes, does family still matter the way it once did? Or, do we need an excuse like Christmas to pause and remind ourselves that family still matters?

Description:Around these parts, "Thank you" is the normal, expected, and, at times, demanded response. For some, the frequency of hearing and saying "Thank you" can can cause "Thank you" to lose its meaning. This week, as we celebrate Thanksgiving, why don't we think about thanking.

Description:We have all heard the statement, "The time of your life." In reality, we have several big moments in our life. But what about the rest of our life? What about all the space between those "big times of our life?" What does it take to keep from missing out?

Description:If we set our priorities to achieve the best, why is it that when tragedy strikes our priorities change? Further, why do we wait for tragedy to readdress our priorities? If you want to live a healthy life, have a healthy family, a healthy marriage, good job satisfaction and job performance, you must come to terms with the space between your current priorities and desired results.
